Using Austin Air Purifiers Keeps The Home Healthy
“The air is free”. “As free as the air” and many other similar sayings are true. All human beings on earth have the inalienable right to breathe air that mantles the earth and is renewed by photosynthesis and wave and water action.
But during the middle part of the last century with its unregulated industrialization much of the air in urban and manufacturing zones became polluted. London and Birmingham in the UK were particularly famous for their “smog” and lung and chest problems were rife throughout the population. Ground level Ozone, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide combined with the fog to create a pea soup. Leaded petrol engines and smoke from factory chimney stacks made the whole rather unpleasant. In 1952 about 4,000 people died in London in short order with a further 8,000 dying later from the effects directly attributed to smog. England then set about cleaning up its act and is largely free now except for some instances when traffic pollution fails to get blown away.

In the US the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been monitoring air quality throughout the US since the 30s and currently list over 300 counties as having an above acceptable level of one or more pollutants. In 1970 Richard Nixon, the President signed the Clean Air Act. It has been amended 3 times since but nevertheless is an act that allows citizens the right to sue if their air is polluted and causes them health problems.
This has greatly improved matter throughout most of the US but this does not mean all is perfect. If one lives in a city or a densely populated area, near to factories or power plants, or a place where there is a lot of Automobile or HGV traffic the chances are good that the air that you breathe is far from clean. As recently as last year the San Joaquin Valley was fined for Ozone breaches.
Households may not realize it but the EPA calculates that the average home is likely to be far more polluted than the outside air. The US has a massive health problem with lungs and more than 5% of Americans have asthma which causes massive health bills and losses in school and work days.
Austin air provides a series of machines for the home that can filter the air in a room catching up to 99.97% of all pollutants up down to 0.3 microns. These collect the air and pass it through a High Efficient Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. In addition they advocate the added patented BioGS filter which absorbs and breaks down some of the allergens and mites that infest the air.
There are many types of Austin Air air purifiers depending on the needs of the room it is to be deployed in. For example there is a tobacco purifier for rooms where smokers are allowed and still others specifically designed for allergy sufferers or for households with pets. The Austin Air healthmate is specifically designed for asthma sufferers.
An air purifier should be selected to filter the air in a room a number of times and hour. A minimum of 4 is recommended if there are any lung illness sufferers occupying that room.
