Popular Uses Of Most Air Doors

Have you ever walked through a supermarket or a big warehouse and noticed that a huge blanket of air pushes down on you? That is because there are air doors attached to the entry ways of those establishments and there are very good reasons why there were installed there.

A short but clear description of what an air door or air curtain (as it is more technically or popularly known) is and its major purpose. An air door is a device that is put on top of a doorway and produces a strong stream of air serving as an invisible barrier between two spaces, usually the other one being confined. It prevents flying insects and unconditioned air from entering.

Among the primary uses of air doors is for industrial climate control. It prevents the entry of outside air to a heated or cooled area. This is usually done by letting the air coming from these air doors to blow directly into the path of the incoming air from the outside. With the two air streams meeting or colliding it would result to one stream of air going straight down to the floor. This in turn creates the curtain of air that we often feel. It is placed in the receiving or traffic doors or shipping area of factories, warehouses and plants for industrial climate control.

If you have an oven and you want to conserve up to 40 percent of your usual fuel used to operate that oven, then consider having an air door installed on top of the oven. You will need to aim the air nozzle to the opening of the oven with the purpose of the stream of air meeting head on with the air that is trying to come out of the oven. This will then result with the escaping hot air being pushed back into the oven and therefore making full use of all of the heat available in there. This is how you can save a great deal of energy.

You can also use air doors to help maintain the air quality of air conditioned areas. As expected the air door will be placed on top of the main doorway. What it does is to prevent the much hotter air from the outside from entering the air conditioned room. This in turn will help in keeping the desired temperature inside the room when it is the kind of area that is frequented by people, therefore a door that is always opening and closing will be less efficient.

In places where dust and humidity levels must be strictly controlled, having one of these devices will make perfect sense. With the air door placed over the doorway and aimed toward the area where dust is expected to enter, the whole room can be made free from dust (at least at desirable levels) without affecting the need for the constant coming and going of personnel. It controls the quality of the air while contributing to better production.

These are just a few of the popular usage of air doors or air curtains. As you have already understood here, the main purpose of an air curtain is to maintain the quality of the air inside the protected area or room.
